Honestly, I can't decide between tortie, crazy shapes and colors, or cat eye.

the cat eye ones would look cute however the peripheral vision would be severely cut back.

I'm going to stick with "whatever flatters your face." It could be any of these.

Do you think my current giant plastic squareish glasses flatter?

Things I know to avoid: wide rectangles, ovals.

I think you would look very pretty with something lighter than your current frames.

You know, any one works I suppose. I'm partial to metal, personally. That's just me, it's your face for the frames so I guess YMBV (Your Mileage Better Vary :). I selected just replacing the lenses though, because we got new glasses very recently and I nearly choked at the price. However, we replaced frames and all this time around, as opposed to lenses only last time around. I strongly suspect the biggest part of the expense was the frames.

For me, lenses cost a pretty penny because of my bad prescription and needing to get high-index. Previously I had not explored the "shop online" aspects of buying frames, so I intend to see if there are any bargains out there.

The only reason this crossed my mind is that the coating on my lenses is starting to scratch. :(

I would talk to turbogrrl, for her frames fu is ninja-y. And I like the mashup of metal AND colors :-D

Do you have a Health Care Reimbursement fund or anything like that going on through your job benefits? Oft-times that can offset some of the cost. Most VSP options are pretty fugly, IMHO, so you're likely better off doing the eye care insurance for the exam & 'script, then off to spiffy place like Blink for filling it.

I got my pairs from Blink umm... nine years ago? and they're still kickin ;-) I don't wear them all day every day, but you can still count on many years of wear with the higher quality (and yes, cost) frames. And the folks that work at Blink are VERY good with presenting options and providing real feedback on how a style looks / changes your look when its on....

== EDIT to change icon to headshot with my most often worn pair ...

What is this Blink of which you speak?

I will make sure to talk to turbogrrl.

I'm not sure what my insurance situation is... I got these glasses on my last insurance.

I'm not a cat eye person but the metal ones and the tortoise ones have potential.

I am loving those particular frames that I chose for the metal example, indeed.

I have metal frames and they are sort of cat-eye but not overly so. I really like them (they're new). I love glasses, though, and if I could afford them, I would get one of each on your list!

I think I like the tortise ones best but I think you could pretty much rock any of these. I like wearing my thin metal frames because there's nothing dark and chunky to get in the way of one's peripheral vision, but then there's no hipster cred for me.

I worry that the tortoise ones will throw me back into the 80s. In the bad way. We'll see.

In my experience, the huge black plastic frames actually have more peripheral vision due to more area of corrective lens to look out of!

I love your current glasses. But if you're up for a change, I was a cross between wacky colors/crazy shapes and cat-eye.

I'm very interested to look at you in some different frames, but you can't really get much from them out of context. I can imagine, but that fails so often. I'd also rather have check boxes above than radio buttons . . . not that I need you to have a bunch of different frames, but I don't have a single favorite.

I purposely didn't put check boxes because I wanted people to have to choose one.

Colored metal could look HOT.

My last pair (ever; I did the laser surgery thing) were red tortie frames, VERY thin. I was torn between the red and the turquoise!

My vote is for whichever you want! :)

I need new glasses too but am afraid to go for something too "hip" or dark. I hate picking out glasses. :)
