Well, on the internet. Good enough for me, considering I don't think myself a writer at all.

Please check out this story which I submitted and which was accepted at Ruined Music.

When someone (one of you, to be sure) linked to this web site I went back and read the entire archives. After finishing off all the stories, I was sure I had at least one I could contribute, so I figured why not. I didn't hear back for a long time, and hadn't invested anything in it, so I wasn't worried. But this week they came back from a break and chose my story to return with! I am freaking psyched. I also immediately thought of three stories I could have told about ruined music that might have been funnier. Oh well.

Hey, not just a great story, but well told. I'm not good enough to critque the writing, so I'll just say, of the story, that I can relate ... not in the particulars but in the end-of-all-things mentality, and the things we did at the time. Anyway, I think you've done a pretty good job of encapsulating something universal enough to be recognized but unique enough to not be trite.

Thank you so much! I thought I had some vagueness problems in it and well, it is really hard to put some emotions into words. I still don't think I did it quite right. Thank you so much for reading.

Ooh. I think I may have been the one who linked to it. I submitted a story of my own ages ago, but it wasn't as good as yours (obviously).

Yes, I believe you did! Thank you!

Quite wonderful, I think!

I am totally going to have to check out that entire site as well because I have a lot of ruined music. In fact, when I went to see K the other day, he wanted to put on an alt rock station for me instead of jazz, and I said no, I don't want any music I listen to to be associated to anything involving guys (or something like that).

Off to read!

Haha... I know the feeling. Jack and I kind of have a song, but I drew the line at one!

I don't think I've agreed with someone I've dated on 'our song' (I'm terribly cynical and unromantic), but I tend to have songs I associate with people and moments with them.

Oh... I have done way more associating than I should have. But for the most part, it was worth it. I could tell stories about:

The Connells
Billy FUCKING Bragg
Neil Finn's "Try Whistling This" CD (which is fine now)
That Aerosmith Song
Liz Phair's "Supernova"
Badly Drawn Boy's "Once Around the Block"
Tattle Tale's "Glass Vase Cello Case"

probably more, if I thought about it.

Heh... I wonder if I will even get one site visitor! And if they visit, will they care! I kind of don't blog for the general public.

You know, the other day I was thinking of that story and forgot to ask you if they ever published it. YAY!
May. 22nd, 2008 03:02 pm (UTC)
Thanks for reviewing it. It helped!

hey, fantastic piece.

I like the site in general, too. I'll have to dig through the website archives -- I like the theme of "older and wiser now but still can't listen to this." Should make for decent lunchtime reading.

Thank you so much. It was great lunchtime reading for me for several days. :)

It's very cool to see you published! Congrats. I enjoyed reading it. =)

Thank you! Although you should probably be mad at me. I can't remember but I bet I blew you off to hang out with this guy during one of my last weeks in Blacksburg. It just seems like the kind of thing I would have done then, because I was a jackass.

Well, I remember what he looked like and remember that I didn't blame you *at all*. =)

Super cool.

Kim, I thought that was fantastic! Your writing skills are superb. I now must read more stories from this website. :)

Thank you!! I don't know about superb but even pulling it off once is OK with me! Yeah, the rest of the stories are really good.

Congrats! =)
