Frustration Station

Today was supposed to be the Genesis Fan Club ticket presale. HA! It's a total catastrophe, from the site being hosed by a scalper script to presale codes showing up on ebay to you name it. Despair reigns across several message boards and email lists I frequent. Wailing and gnashing of teeth. My one regret is not doing my best to get an American Express card and getting in on those presales.

This is the same company that did the Police fan club presales, and I haven't been able to find a hue and cry about that.

Anyways, in honor of MY current level of cynicism and despair, here is an article:

Neoclue and I talked about the Police thing, but...$225 bucks a pop..I don't think so. I love the police, I love sting, but not that much.

Is that $225 plus some insane fan club membership cost?

I was/am totally ready to spend that much. I planned for this to cost me a pretty penny. Just to see them once... I'm just ticked that the access to good seats has been botched.

Live music for me had better be better than that for me to shell out any more money. I would happily give $arm & $leg to see Dead Can Dance again like that. It was a wonderful evening. THAT is what a concert should be like. Pay a fair price for admission, see a great show, and not feel like you're being reamed up the tushie just to get in the door. Corporations got it in their heads that they can make money off of the concerts. Sad part is that many artists are suffering as much as concert goers. How much of that $225 is going to the band? Not anywhere near as much as you think. And that makes me cry inside.

I didn't think much would be going to the band at all. I just assume that in the music business that's not how it works. :P

OMG, wasn't that a fiasco? Made me feel better about being too cheap to pay refusing to pay $35 to get in on the presales.

Honest to God, between the badly-handled initial announcement on the old forum and the new forum going down on the day of the presale, I'm surprised that none of the drama has ended up on Fandom_Wank yet.

Actually, I probably would've posted the original Ultrastar wank there if I hadn't been right there wanking along with all the others in that thread! ;)

i just found out today that I won't be able to make the Cleveland show because Kittendaddy has other committments. And you know what? This whole thing has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I don't really care. I'll buy the DVD and live album when they come out (for a fraction of the price of tickets) and enjoy the show from the comfort of my living room.

So there! [sticks out tongue]

I completely understand how you feel! This morning as I was staring the presale in the face and realizing how much money I was about to spend... I started to think twice. There are so many places this money could go that would be better. And you're right - having the DVD really makes going there and sitting amongst a berjillion people SO much less appealing.

The only reason I'm going to go ahead and do it now is because I never was able to when they toured before.

I saw them on the "Invisible Touch" tour and the "WDC" tour, so I don't feel quite as bad. I was really looking forward to the reunion tour series of shows, but now... not so much.
