So I finally gave AM & PM Yoga a try last night. For one, I think I might want to take a real yoga class. For two, Rodney Yee's black underwear is distracting. (Cast your mind back to this gem.) For three, Hero really, really loves it when I do yoga. He lays next to me and does kitty yoga and stretches and purrs. He also tries to rub up against me when I am most likely to collapse in a non-peaceful heap, as if to say, "downward facing what now, sweetie?".

So I wonder if I can find a yoga class that's not a) a ridiculous expense and b) too much with the woo-woo as sesby would say.

I want to do yoga too! Especially now that my parents are showing me up by taking classes. And I agree about Rodney Yee. There's this place by me but you could probably find cheaper.

anusara yoga (willow street) is rife with the loving kindness and third eye woo woo, but not so much of the "this will cure cancer" woo woo.

joe miller, who teaches there, knows what he is doing and has a strange malkovitch demeanor, which i found facinating and repelling at the same time.
in terms of style, you might be more interested in the vinyasa yoga, which tends to be of the kick your ass by constantly moving and not so much on the woo woo. ashtanga can be a bit militant. iyengar is woo woo and slow, but good for precision alignment. bikram is crazy, greedy, woo-woo, and involve sweating your guts out all over sweat-infused carpet floors. ugh.

All I can say is that I liked the slowness and peacefulness of the one I did (which is iyengar I guess) and as noted below am scared of the higher-speed and higher-impact yoga due to utter out-of-shapeness.

Rodney Yee and his panties, they are famous in song and legend throughout the yoga world.

Have you tried Bryan Kest's DVDs? They're good, or at least the one I used was.

I thought A.M. & P.M. Yoga was woosified. I was left wanting more. It was a yoga cock tease.

This was my first yoga DVD, actually, so I haven't tried any others. I'm really scared of power yoga because I am very out of shape and worried I will have to stop and get discouraged.

AM&PM was kind of woosified, but it was not so much that I couldn't handle it. Maybe I have a high tolerance. But yeah, at 2 20 minute segments it was very teasing, but I was happy because I was able to stick it out and complete the whole thing and not stare as he/she does something particular I just can't do. Like with the freaking Banghra dance workout DVD, grr.

Yoga is awesome! I took a class a few semesters ago, and have kept up with it at home. (The tapes are sooo much better after you've been taught with an instructor.)

There are MANY different kinds of Yoga. I'm not *exactly* sure what you mean by "woo-woo," but that link should help you when choosing a class.

Because people want to think that mystical eastern shit is going to solve all their problems?

I wish we could find a yoga class near our houses to go to!

I have heard:

1. Willow Street Yoga is very good. The one I know about is in downtown Silver Spring, though, and I also know that if you have to go on a Quest to get to the gym, you won't go to the gym.

2. The Yoga place next to my house on Route 1 is Overpriced and Crappy.

Bummer!!! I really would like to find a place in Laurel. Because it is like you say - I'm not going 15 miles out of my way at rush hour to contort myself.

You can find low woo-woo yoga classes same as you can find low woo-woo chiropractors, if you ask around enough.

I think I am a light woo-woo person. I like woo-woo, but I have a threshhold where I just don't stand for it anymore.

I don't know if power yoga is going to be my thing. I mean, maybe eevntually. I liked the peaceful meditative aspect of the video I have. I guess I am kind of woo-woo.

You know, I'm not sure why its called Power Yoga.
It's really mellow and focused on the internal aspect.

I always feel like my cobwebs are cleaned out when I do it.
