I am the fickle obsessor.

My current and possibly brief obsession thanks to Jane Smiley's book Horse Heaven is horses. I was supposed to have my horse phase when I was like, 8, but I was busy going through a big cat phase then. So what should happen on my drive home on 32 but I see a sign for a horse farm for sale. I think it's this one but I'm not sure. It doesn't matter, I don't know anyone with two plus mil to throw around. It's not helping that the Potomac Horse Center says they are looking for stable muckers on the weekends. I love how they say "groom, tack, blanket, perform barn chores" as if we all don't know that barn chores is horse talk for poop moving.

Point being, this book is so. freaking. good.

If you ever want to go riding sometime I've been dying to find a place that offers trail riding. There used to be a place in rock creek park, but I never actually checked it out. I miss my horse!

I really do want to!! I haven't since I was a kid at horse camp though. I would love to! I have a list of places that offer lessons set up here:

uh, yeah - it's been years since I've ridden (not since I moved to MD). Rock Creek Equestrian center was the one I was thinking of - $30 for an hour ride is pretty reasonable. Camp Olympia is right down the street from me! They don't seem to offer just trail rides though... I'm not sure how I feel about mandatory helmets...

OK in that case we should try to find a time to trail ride! June is pretty open for me so far.

Sunday afternoons are good for me - June 4 I'm free but might be too late to get reservations, June 18th I could do...

Let's try for June 18th! You want to call or should I? I suppose we can take this to email for further organization.

Slightly off topic, but I love A Thousand Acres.

Maybe I should branch out. Read Horse Heaven.

Kim: you can have my copy. I never really got into it. Also, I still have your copy of Nickel and Dimed, dang it.

I've read "moo," "thousand acres," "horse heaven" by Smiley now, and they are all fckin amazing. She's incredible.

I kept putting off reading it because I was intimidated. But it's been so worth it.

You know kazoogrrl, right? She often flees from her urban dwelling to spend a little equine time on the farm; I'm sure she'd be happy to share details.

I do! And I didn't know that! Perhaps when PDF things are done she will have some contribution. :D
