First I'll list the 5mls I ordered:
Uranus - Eccentricity - Adventure - Clairvoyance - Defiance - Humanitarianism - Lawlessness - Magnetism - Paradoxes - Astrology - Whimsy - Progress - Electricity - Invention - Satire
This smells so strongly of cinnamon that it almost makes me sneeze! I haven't tried it on yet, because I'm really not a big cinnamon fan. I will give it one shot and then it gets swapped, ebayed, or sold to a friend. I got this on a whim because the string of nouns seemed to fit right in with where I'm at, but sadly, this isn't for me. Note: I did try this the other day and as I suspected, I don't like it. I don't hate it like I thought I would, because under the cinnamon is something a little woodsy, but I don't like it. I had to end up layering it with Magus which was a nice effect.
THE STATIONS OF THE SUN
LIBER RESH VEL HELIOS: RA
Hail unto Thee who art Ra in Thy rising, even unto Thee who art Ra in Thy strength, who travellest over the Heavens in Thy bark at the Uprising of the Sun. Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm. Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Night!
Yeah, so ever since I first looked at the BPAL site I had an interest in the stations of the sun. Perhaps for extra-vague spiritual reasons, perhaps due to that song I linked to a week or so ago, maybe because we were just going into or coming out of the shorter days of winter when I thought about it. I just really wanted these. The very first thing I tried out of this order was Ra. I thought it smelled like a nice blend of woods, mostly sandalwood. Looking at the reviews, virtually no one else mentions this. But just from sniffing the scents in the bottle, I think this will be my favorite, and it sort of reflects my mood of late which is to say, proactive, up and at-em. It lasted about a half-day and I really found myself wanting more.
LIBER RESH VEL HELIOS: AHATHOOR
Hail unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy triumphing, even unto Thee who art Ahathoor in Thy beauty, who travellest over the heavens in thy bark at the Mid-course of the Sun. Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm. Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Morning!
LIBER RESH VEL HELIOS: TUM
Hail unto Thee who art Tum in Thy setting, even unto Thee who art Tum in Thy joy, who travellest over the Heavens in Thy bark at the Down-going of the Sun. Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm. Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Day!
I haven't tried this one, and I'm wondering if I will bother because while no one agrees on the reviews of the other Stations of the Sun, *everyone* agrees that this smells like grape soda or dimetapp, and they're right. I was bowled over by it and really wanted to get it as far away from my nose as possible. Um, try this if you like grapes? I dunno.
LIBER RESH VEL HELIOS: KHEPHRA
Hail unto thee who art Khephra in Thy hiding, even unto Thee who art Khephra in Thy silence, who travellest over the heavens in Thy bark at the Midnight Hour of the Sun. Tahuti standeth in His splendour at the prow, and Ra-Hoor abideth at the helm. Hail unto Thee from the Abodes of Evening.
The other night I put this on right before bed hoping it would lull me into a peaceful sleep. It did. Case closed. A keeper!
And here are the ten gift imps I recieved, possibly for being obsequious when asking about shipping!
HIGHWAYMAN 4/19 gave this one a try. My first thought out of the bottle was "smoke!" and I also felt it had that ozoney tinge that I recall from Hurricane. But according to the description I have it all wrong! I suspect the "smoke" was actually the leather note or possibly the vetiver. It's what everyone would describe as a masculine scent but I wouldn't since that assumes a whole bunch of sexist stuff. I don't think this one's for me, possibly due to the cinnamon note. I'd go back and enjoy Hurricane instead.
MARCH HARE Tried this today. Description is apt, although when I first decanted and applied, I thought I smelled holly, which I think was just the clove making it smell like some kind of Christmas candle. It does smell a bit like something you'd eat, which explains why I hate it.
DRAGON'S MUSK Unless this dries down to be completely powdery (a strong possibility) this is shooting right up the charts into "to buy large bottle" territory. Out of the bottle it's strong and musky and happy. It's gotten sweeter - but I stil love love love it. If all traces of musky disappear it will be disappointing.
YEW TREES This one I tried yesterday. It smelled like coconut to me, which made me either want to sing "If you like pina colada..." or "Get on the boat, banana boat in the sun." Crazy how commercials stay with you like that. Anyways, it dried down to a generic powdery sweet scent, so definitely not for me. I think it smells like something other people might like though. I'm not seeing the yew trees connection but then, what the heck do I know about yew trees?
IAMBE This is one of those that manifests itself in the form of something approximating a commercial perfume. Out of the bottle, I think the flowery notes triumph, the gladiola and the rose dominating anything else. When I apply, that calms down a little, but really reminds me of many extremely "feminine" perfumes I've tried over time. As it dries down the patchouli emerges, but only hints. It's very nice. Not sure I'd buy it, since I already have so much commercial perfume that performs like this.
ALECTO I could have sworn this had something flowery in it that I didn't like, but maybe that was just the cedar interacting with everything else. Maybe it's just my bod. This can get swapped. Not exciting enough.
