Jan. 18th, 2006

Jen leaked our super exciting weekend plans, I might as well too!

We're going to see Brokeback Mountain at the 4:40 showing at the old Greenbelt theater saturday. Then some chinese food next door. Let me know if you are interested in coming along.

In other news: I was accepted into Ladies Rock Camp!! !!!!!! Words cannot describe my excitement. (Mingled with a tad of fear and trepidation, per usual.) Let's see, work is crazy, we got a new castiron skillet which those fools shipped to us for free (it weighs 3745638 lbs) (we got a 13" one which in retrospect might have been kind of dumb) (jack had to call me downstairs to heft it and see just the workout we will be getting through cooking), and my warlock is up to level 51. What should we make in the new castiron skillet?

No one at Lowe's even knows what a composter is. And I left there with a strange desire for Corian countertops.

Not so vague panic in my breast about Jack's work situation.

If the skillet is already seasoned, you could make a big double batch of Alton Brown's delicious cornbread. If it's not, you're going to want to cook greasy stuff the first few times (even if you oven-season it, trust me). May I recommend Southern fried chicken?

And dude, I feel you on the overly-large cast iron front. One of the reasons I like cast iron is you can move it from the stovetop to the oven, but when that thing is full of food and blazing hot, it feels like an Olympic trial.

Anything that masses as much as a 13lb iron frypan deserves a name no less dignified and weighty than "boustrophedon".

I *will* be in Portland! I already have a couch to sleep on from an old friend from college, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see you! I will probably be staying an extra day or so.

There's just alot of shakeups going on. It happens. I just know he's pretty unhappy there and wish he'd find something else, something closer and with the kind of work that makes him happier.

Congrats on rock camp - that sounds really neat! If I played an actual rock and roll instrument I'd totally be into that!

And don't worry about Jack - he's a smart personable guy with professional experience. I don't know the situation, but he can totally find another job if that's what it comes to. I was totally freaked when pseudotheist was laid-off a couple years back, but he was able to find something relatively quickly. It will all work out in the end! Who knows, maybe he'll find somthing even better and closer to home which would rock for both of you!
