I can't recommend enough the Rocky soundtrack. It's universal, really.

Or, that aside, I get infinite mileage out of Iron Maiden's "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son."

Of course, if I'm shooting for "cool and indy," I'd go Saleem, Equilibrium. (www.soundclick.com/saleemus)

And by "Rocky Soundtrack," he meant "Cool As Ice" by Vanilla Ice.

Blackmore's Night "Ghost of a Rose" . One of my all time favorite albums. There are songs on it that just pull at me in a nice warm way.

I'm going to go with: Apples In Stereo - Tone Soul Evolution (amazon)

I really think you would like it, or any of their albums.

Books- Lemon of Pink

Because I chose that randomly.

Sarah Slean "Night Bugs." It's an awesome cd for warm summer nights alone on a back deck. If you like chicks with pianos, you will like this.

Steady Pull by Jonatha Brooke (you can listen to this CD and all her others by following the link)

Her voice reminds me of Sarah McLaughlin. The songs are poignant and beautiful. And if you can find the European Release, the song Deny Me... MAKES ME CRY!

Godspeed You Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven

Politically motivated instrumental music (how does that work?) by a band of like nine people hiding in the shadows. Freaking beautiful.

You can get it on amazon and whatever, but I will point you at mail order directly from their label, as GYBE is much happier not supporting large corporations.

http://www.kranky.net/ordering.html

It's a double CD, catalog number KRANK 043, $14 including shipping. The downside here is that they don't do online ordering, you have to mail them a check.

The band would probably also be pleased if you bought it at your local indie store, and they won't hate you if you buy it Barnes and Noble, it's just they'd rather it wasn't your first choice.

And yeah, they actually mention things like this in the liner notes of some of their releases, which is why I'm making a point about it.

Re: ...
I went with the first Kim-appropriate-seeming thing that came to mind, but it really is anamazing album. And if you already know the band, I'll happily start over with another rec.

I'd like to do this, but I have noticed over the years that you and I do not share musical taste, at all, and I fear any cd I love would probably find itself hated by you. And I don't want to lead you astray.

I really wouldn't worry unless you're going to recommend Green Day. I mean, I do try to have an open mind! Also, it's just a meme - I don't have the cash to go buy as many albums as people may recommend on here.

Do you hate the music I like?

Little Sparrow - Dolly Parton
Why? It's an amazing album, and very rootsy!

One of my all time faves is Van Morrison - Days Like This. It always reminds me of sitting on my stoop on late summer afternoons, drinking beer with friends.

Hot Fuss by The Killers. It's got a distinct 80's New Wave feel.
