Itunes just gave me Squirrel Nut Zippers' "Hot" and Dolly Parton's "Halos and Horns" in succession. Good Itunes. *pats*

I just saw the third silverfish I've seen in this house. WHAT am I DOING to PISS OFF god??? (Don't anwer that.) I hate bugs more than anything in the world. More than licorice, even.

*wanders off muttering to self*

and then it served up "nothing in the world can stop me worrying about that girl", "50 ways to leave your lover", "goin through the big d (and don't mean dallas", and "red red wine".

what are you trying to tell me, itunes? i know jack is home late from work, but he does that every day, because, well, he likes to work.

hee.

it's majikal!
dude, i don't know what it is about itunes, but it's so much smarter about random song list arrangements than media player. not that it's trying to tell you anything about jack working late, but you know. ;)

Re: it's majikal!
apparently today's theme is "cheatin songs".

did you know that they have computer programs that can grade SAT essays???? no kidding. form AND content. so the itunes thing shouldn't be so surprising.

it's bits of fossilized sea creatures ground up into a fine, non-toxic (to pets and humans) powder. you sprinkle it around areas where bugs tend to hang out and when they crawl through it, it basically slices them up, causing them to dehydrate and die. you can usually find it at pet stores, though if you can't find it, borax will do more or less the same thing. :)

If I recall correctly though, sodium borate / borax is not necessarily pet safe! Good luck running the silverfish out of the house.

edit: Not the first time I've been wrong.

There, and pool stores as well. It's regularly used for pool filters.
(this knowledge brought to you by someone who lived in a house with a pool to learn this)

hee! actually though, the pool stuff is slightly different than the pet store stuff and is not as effective for household pest-eliminating needs. or at least, so said the interenet last night when i went looking for a handy definition of the stuff to link to here and failed to find one. ;)

Do the kitties not try to eat them?
A few houses ago, I lived in the basement, and would get one of those scary super fast-moving horned centipedes every now and then. My roommate's kitty was thrilled by them, but I never let her eat them because I figured anything that horrifying looking must be poisonous.

i think i would live in my car before living in a basement! EEEK!

yeah the cats don't seem to notice. i have atypically un-aggressive cats, in regards to bugs.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh silverfish!

I HATE THEM!

I esp. hate the ones that seem to be prehistoric and have grown very large and have millions of legs, but are still recognizably silverfish. I COULD THROW UP RIGHT NOW!!!

Eucalyptus leaves. You mom puts them in all the cupboards and it keeps the little buggers at bay. We have been battling them since we moved here. Go buy a eucalyptus tree and plant it in your yard. It will give you a lifetime supply of anti-bug stuff plus they smell good.

do eucalyptus trees do well in shade? because that's all we've got.....

Don't know about shade. You can get the dried leaves in most crafty places. put them behind your books and the little critters will go somewhere else. Also the don't like light. It takes some kind of evil poison to kill them and I'd rather have the bugs than a sick cat.

One good thing you can say about living on the 9th floor, not so many crawly bugs.

Silverfish are probably in your books, I know I've seen a few in my apt. and they probably came in the books. The eucalyptus leaves sound like a pleasant smelling solution!

thank you! i finally actually ventured into the world of like, design, in the sense of making it have a background image. i found lots of awesome vintage fabric pictures to use as backgrounds. also, i would note, in case you know any quilters, there was an awesome article on vintage textiles in the latest organic style.
