This weekend was big. BIG! I filled this big weekend with BIG things.

First: Karaoke. We rocked the Ramada Inn Lounge for several hours friday night for traceracer's birthday. I sang Fugees and Pat Benatar. My voice cracked on "We are strong!!!!" which in retrospect, doesn't sound so strong. I packed it in early because...

On saturday I woke up early and carpooled into DC with grrangela and midwinter for the National Conference on Organized Resistance. I will say, for humor's sake, that ironically it was slightly confusing to find the correct AU shuttle stop and the lecture locations. Ha. OK but seriously, I am so glad I went, and I'm so glad I went with people who are so awesome. There was, of course, the comfort of being among mostly like-minded people. There was the fact that I got to see a presentation by Robert Jensen, who has written some of my favorite words in a radical feminist vein about porn. He made some extremely amusing comments about television and provided some reality checks on dealing with mainstream media when you are representing your radical cause. We also attended a panel on consensus and communication and I have to confess that a good deal of it went over my head, but Matt Mayer (sp?), one of the presenters, kicked ass and I didn't get a chance to but I'd like to shake his hand. We rode the metro back to Greenbelt and shared stories and it was just good. I must remark, as Emily also has, on the non-gendered bathrooms (they reappropriated). I have to say I was pleased with how non-threatening it felt and how easy it was. But I have to say that in regular life when I wasn't surrounded by a bunch of organized resisters? That would not feel so safe. But it was a glimpse of how things could be. I even enjoyed the vegan lunch. I look forward to next year! I have some unfinished thoughts on the comparison in atmosphere between this and the many sci-fi conventions I have attended historically... anyways. I have some fliers and hope to learn more about several topics...

After I got home we spontaneously had dinner at Sapphire with Jack's parents, which was really nice (although I truly wish I had NOT brought up the Buster thing, it's too emotional for me to talk about). Sapphire has added a Thai menu! I didn't try it, but next time I will. Sunday we knitted, and I got the design for my tattoo. I am totally blinky freaking out about it and I don't know why! I made some change suggestions and told Queen H I would need to take it home and meditate. Here's hoping I find time to do that.

Assorted other things about sunday: CDepot sucks and didn't have either Iron & Wine or Bonnie Prince Billy. I got Les Nubians and Steve Martin instead. Jack and I knitted a bunch and watched Bill Cosby's Himself (which I had not seen in over 20 years and had no idea how much I must have internalized some of that, I think it had a big impact on my perception of drugs and alcohol!) and the newer, Rik-Mayall-enhanced, inferior PBS version of Jesus Christ Superstar. I conned him into helping my Warlock with her Felhunter quest in WoW.

I woke up this morning thinking, "why is my alarm going off, it's sunday!!" No, Kim, sorry. It's not.

NCoR sounds neat.

I've not seen Himself, but I want to. Did you rent it?
Feb. 7th, 2005 06:35 pm (UTC)
I bought it. You can borrow it after Jody. :) In places it's kind of disturbing to me as an adult, but I recall it being the HEIGHT of hilarity when I was 5.

Last night I thought it was Monday. And today would be Tuesday

I will be requiring a hand-holder for the tattoo experience...

I would be honored to have you participate in any of these things with me.

Feb. 9th, 2005 01:32 pm (UTC)
hahaha you know that is the answer i provided at first and then thought maybe she meant the other thing. so i met a friend on lj who turned out she knows our neighbors three doors down and said neighbors are tattoo artists. so i am going down the street to get it done. :) she's about to go in on a studio in bethesda but it hasn't opened yet.

Are you going to share the design with the LJ or are you more interested in personal meditation rather than public processing?

Also, sorry about it being Monday!! ::hugs::
Feb. 7th, 2005 08:53 pm (UTC)
Oh, it's definitely a time for personal meditation n stuff. When I have a finished product, then I will post it. :)
