... although, I got a great deal to Alaska in September $549 USD. You'd have to fly to vancouver/seattle but that is CHEAP for a weeks' travel and food 24/7.

I wrote down portland, but really I could get behind any of these. I'll especially vote for anything in the US, because people don't see all the beautiful places in their own country nearly enough. Oregon is so gorgeous and amazing that when Fred and I were moving back to MD from CA we were incredibly tempted to stop and just stay there for a month or year despite the fact that all of our worldly posessions were headed for Maryland.

The colorado/utah/arizona area is absolutely amazing! I'd rent a car and drive around these states for weeks given the chance.

Alaska feels like it would end up costing more but I've never been there so I have no real facts to go on. But if you go at the end of the season (Septemberish) you should have some amazing opportunities to see the Northern lights, which would be uber cool.

Can you tell I'm all about nature when it comes to planning travel?

Ideally I'd like to drive cross country, but there's no way I'll have the vacation. *le sigh*

I have a feeling we have similar vacation instincts :)

I know next to nothing about what's in COlorado/Utah/Arizona but I just know I'd like to see it.

I went with the UK, because I see it as the best fit for you & Jack. Just please remember to get the hell out of London if you go. Too many damn Americans!

Also, you're welcome to come to LA and crash on my brand new sleeper sofa. It'll sleep two, so you and Jack'll both have space.

And I know you're not allergic to cats, so we're GOLDEN!

(You can meet Minners and Dada.) (The cats.)

Or, you know, any of the others. They all sound fun to me.

Arizona is a great choice! I've had a great time visiting the areas around Tucson, as well as a number of places around northern Arizona (Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon, etc.) Four-wheeling and rafting around Moab, UT makes a great side-trip.

Europe makes a great trip too, and if you go in the off-season the fares can be pretty comperable. However, you'll likely find the other costs (food, hotel, etc.) to be a good bit higher as the exchange rates are pretty poor right now.

Any thoughts on the kind of "experience" you're looking for? That is, like if you want adventure travel or if instead more museums and pampering?

This is the self-exploration vacation - meditation and solitude and reckoning. Which is why I originally said Alaska.

On the other hand, that might go out the window if I find something I like better. :)

Iceland!
I don't know why, I've just wanted to go there. I hear it's pretty cheap. And they have natural hot springs!

They have been intensely pushing their tourism in the past few years. They are trying to make themselves into some kind of giant party.

San Francisco is also only a hop skip and a jump from Portland. Well, I mean, compared to crossing the entire span of the country. A visit to one could be combined with a visit to the other...

Your offer of guest room is very generous! And tempting! I need to browse airfares for late summer and watch for steals.

Canadia

isn't it spelled Kanadia? Canadia looks too much like Candida, and I know Canada is wierd, but I wouldn't equate it to a yeast infection.
