dpmcnevin - it's called carol of the bells.

peregin8 - let me sing you something else! "ooh baby do you know what that's worth? ooh heaven is a place on earth! they say in heaven, love comes first, we'll make heaven a place on earth!" oh wait, that's not better, is it.

hrm, am I the only one that can pick a bad/least favorite Christmas song?
Nov. 29th, 2004 04:07 pm (UTC)
my problem is that there are several vying for the win and i can't decide. and i don't know the name of the lead candidate.

Allow me to lodge this as a second-least-favorite:

"LAAAAAAST Christmas, I gave you my heart
but the very next day, you gave it away!"

Goddamn you, Wham!

oh dear! i love that one. i am pretty much a sucker for unique pop christmas songs. except for the beach boys, who can take little saint nick and stick it up their er, chimneys.

I also nominate "I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus" for:

1) Creepiest

2) Painful reminder of single-parent childhood - never actually got the "joke" of the song until I was an adult

ooh. i hadn't even thought about that one, but i wholly agree. :P

I am also forgetting "Christmas in Hollis" by Run DMC, and that Blink 182 Xmas song is pretty funny.

Damn you, examorata, for mentioning "A Patrick Swayze Christmas" when I forgot! I love that song. ;)

"grandma got run over by a reindeer" was funny. once.
Nov. 29th, 2004 07:57 pm (UTC)
It should be illegal to play that more than once a season and they should issue some sort of coded warning about when it's going to be

I have a copy of Dream Theater doing "O Holy Night" that's *almost* as creepy as I want it to be, but the quest for an ever creepier version continues.
Nov. 29th, 2004 07:52 pm (UTC)
there is a contemporary christmas mix on itunes that is specifically made up of incredibly creepy christmas music renditions. suzanne vega sings some damn thing on it, i'll look it up when i get home.
Nov. 29th, 2004 06:53 pm (UTC)
Oooh Oh Holy Night is good. But then I'd have to put Harry Chapin's Mr. Tanner on the list since it's sung in the background as the Christmas song I like just to be different.
Nov. 29th, 2004 07:53 pm (UTC)
i have never heard this mr. tanner!
Nov. 29th, 2004 08:17 pm (UTC)
Oh holy crap, I can't believe I forgot my other favorite Christmas song, the Pogues' "Fairytale of New York." Absolute classic!
Nov. 29th, 2004 10:37 pm (UTC)
Ahh yes, a Christmas classic...

You're a bum, you're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Nov. 29th, 2004 11:09 pm (UTC)
I realise now that Corporal Blossom's "Little Drummer Boy," is only my second favorite.

Nov. 30th, 2004 12:27 am (UTC)
Re: ...
that is definitely at the top of my list.
Nov. 29th, 2004 11:13 pm (UTC)
[dis-]honorable mention: those albums of instrumental christmas carols composed entirely of sampled cat meows and/or dog barks.
Dec. 1st, 2004 04:51 am (UTC)
"I'm gonna spend my Christmas with a Dalek"... Not that I'd recommend spending Chrismas with a Dalek (nor as good Christmas song), but it ought to be heard at least once...
