Last night's film: House of Fools

Russian with english subtitles - I actually enjoyed this film, even after looking back at the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and seeing that most reviewers didn't. The movie is like Amelie mixed with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest with a little Black Hawk Down thrown in (but set during the wars in Chechnya in the 90s). I guess I'm a sucker for anything set in an asylum. But you do have to enjoy Bryan Adams to like the film. Most of the reviewers resented clichéd images of mental patients, which could be an appropriate criticism but I was too enchanted with the innocence of the main character to really care. Besides, they used the actual mental patients to play themselves in some cases. I wouldn't buy a copy but I'm glad I watched it. If you are sick of "the craziness of the normal world juxtaposed with the craziness of the insane asylum" as a theme, then don't bother. I don't think I could ever get sick of that theme.

Sunday morning, workenating. Mids manager hinted around the fact that he will push for me to stay on days. Not holding my breath. Will I be sociable this evening? Seems unlikely.
