Car broken into by bad people. They got the FACE of my stereo (which I had cleverly hid under the seat... heh) but couldn't get the stereo out. Called police; this was apparently a huge thing to do last night. Called insurance. The glass people will come out to fix it tomorrow. In the meantime... I think I might get a rental car for the night if it's not too expensive.

But none of this belies the fact that I am SO FUCKING MAD I COULD SPIT FIREY NAILS. It made me think really hard about whether, if I saw someone breaking into my car, I'd shoot them. I bet I wouldn't because then I'd be injail for murder for a really long time, but it was a satisfying vision to imagine getting some kind of vengeance on the anonymous vandals.

Jesus. How violating. But don't kill anyone, for your own sake.
Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:24 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I don't actually want to kill anyone.

I will say that this is making me want to be somewhere with public transportation so I can shed my vehicle. I consider your situation advantageous.

shoot for the legs.

Though personally, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a shotgun, so I doubt that a) I'd be able to hit them and since b)I don't actually carry a gun, by the time I could borrow a gun, load it and fire at them (oh, drat. Flick safety off, *then* fire at them), they'd probably be long gone.

Really, though, sorry to hear about your car. Hey, if you find them, maybe we can string them up by their toenails alongside the dumb@$$ that broke into shadrone's car too.

i don't have a gun either; i don't actually want one, nor do i actually want to shoot anyone. but i was... a little... teensy bit mad this afternoon.

Unfortunately you live in Maryland, where only the criminals are allowed to have guns.
Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:26 pm (UTC)
Marylandians are allowed to have guns, it's District of Columbians who are not.

You need a break from all this car trouble. Its not fair. you're too cute to have all these things happen to.

I know how you feel about the rage thing. When I was living in the sunny ghetto of sowebo, I had my car broken into a couple of times. Everytime I felt this huge rage at being violated. And at the fact that someone assumed that they had a right to the things that I had worked for and earned. Eventually I got kinda numb about it though, and since I was still driving the escort at the time, I just decided to leave the doors unlocked so that people could help themselves to my stuff without having to break my windows. Strangely nobody ever broke into my car after that.

thank you...

i like your idea but i think that the people who broke into my car were probably such morons that they would have not noticed that the door was unlocked and broken my window anyways. grr.

You and cars lately ... sheesh. Sorry to hear about the violation.
Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:31 pm (UTC)
Yeah, well I am trying to tell myself that it balances out with the benefits of living in the Big City. or something. Pfeh.
Jan. 2nd, 2003 01:21 pm (UTC)
Oh my god. I'm so sorry. That sucks ass.
Popular thing to do? Did they have a bunch of thefts last night? Are they doing anything to find the fuckers?

Jesus H. Christ. I think you need a vacation.

Maybe I can cook dinner or something.
Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:32 pm (UTC)
I just had a vacation! *shakes fist*

As long as the glass people do their job tomorrow I can be somewhat chill about this.

Sorry too. I once had my hubcaps stolen from my mom's car (hey, I was 17 and going for tacos with friends) and we saw the guys walking up to my car!! We were like, uh . . . maybe they're just looking cuz they like the car? And we continued into the taco establishment to chow.

I know what you mean though . . . but I think I woulda just moooshed my taco in their faces.

Hope you get your stuff back and repaired ASAP.

Thanks! That sucks about the hubcap story... I can't believe people are so mean.

Maybe God is telling you to consider mass transit. (Wait, it was at your house. Nevermind.)

Warning shots aren't illegal (I think.)
Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:35 pm (UTC)
If only mass transit actually worked. I mean, the metro works, but how to get there? And how long does it take? Ugh.

Ya know, there's an air rifle that'll kill a rabbit at 20yrds... If you nailed him with that you could always claim you didn't know it could kill him!
Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:36 pm (UTC)
Sigh... I wonder if I was awake when they were breaking into my car.
Jan. 2nd, 2003 06:40 pm (UTC)
Yowza! Sorry to hear that! I hope the fucking bastards get caught!
Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:37 pm (UTC)
Sincerely doubtful. My faith in the P.G. county police is relatively low; add that to the fact that they didn't even come out and LOOK at the car, they just took a report over the phone, and basically the crooks get no attention. Sigh.
Jan. 2nd, 2003 07:36 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear about that. That happened to me three times in Salt Lake. It feels so violating. And it sucks even worse because it seems like there's not a whole lot you can do about it. :( I hope the cops were able to lift a fingerprint. If they did, if they ever catch the vandals on something else, they can prosecute for your car. :)
Jan. 2nd, 2003 10:38 pm (UTC)
1. Three times! Holy moly, how long did you live in Salt Lake?

2. They won't catch him with fingerprints from MY car because they didn't even come out and look at the car, they took a report over the phone.

Re: Eeek!
*hugs back*

I hope that it is either A) inexpensive to replace the face or B) covered by insurance or C) covered by my warranty. Because I only got to experience my nice stereo for a month and change. Which is unacceptable. But now I'm like... maybe I shouldn't have bought a nice stereo. Sigh.

I'm sorry to hear about the stereo. You just put that in too didn't you? :(
Jan. 3rd, 2003 08:58 am (UTC)
Yeah, I put it in in November. >:(

Man do I feel your pain. My car got broken into about 5 years ago. They didn't get away with anything too valuable. They did however take some momentos I had collected...dried weed flowers that a friend gave me on a lovely day, a little cheap glass heart coin box that my grandmother gave me before she died...things like that.

More than anything, my space felt violated. It's weird knowing someone has sat in your car. Their smell may remain. They've touched your space and dirtied it. Those are the things that bothered me most when my car got broken into.
Jan. 5th, 2003 02:46 am (UTC)
It is just an alien concept to me that someone can show that little respect for another person. I feel so stupid for thinking that it couldn't happen to me. In a way, I expect people to violate my space from time to time; we all live on this world together. But in such a destructive way? That I do not understand. It's like... a child stealing another child's toy and throwing it in the mud puddle for kicks. Because honestly, I am not sure how much money anything in my car is worth, for crying out loud. I can't think of that as a motive.
