"classics"

oh my god, who can DVR the old 120 minutes on VH1 classic for me? I had no idea they had this.

I just heard about this on the Crowded House fan list.

This was such a big part of my musical education!

I am tempted to call the cable company and upgrade to that package immediately.

They aren't the old 120 Minutes shows.

What they are is a couple-hour block of music videos that are almost entirely (but not exclusively) from the 80's, with a few early 90's mixed in. Plus usually one or two new videos they're pushing from classic acts - for a while they'd play an old REM song back-to-back with the video off their latest single, and then switched to doing the same for the new B-52s song or a Blondie video followed by a very recent Debbie Harry solo track.

They use the 120 Minutes name because hey, they own it.

But it's decidedly NOT rebroadcasts of the old MTV program (for one, there's no VJ, just the videos and commercials. And no live performances or studio anything.)

Ah! It was misbilled then. Nevertheless, they said they played Hunters and Collectors and The Ocean Blue...

still that's disappointing.

Yep, they've definitely played both.. I mean, I do Tivo them because the selection of old videos is often pretty cool and worth browsing through, and all but one or two are very old videos (frequently that I haven't seen in 20 years.)

Just letting you know what to expect...

My friend Dave who I was just visiting in NY has many, many VHS tapes of 120 Minutes. He said he pulls them out about once a year and watches them when he's drunk. He's not very computer-savvy, but I hope someday he'll be able to digitize them and share them!

If this was the old 120 Minutes with Dave Kendall or whoever I'd have bought a DVD-burnin' Tivonator by now. Alas, no. There are many, many, many videos a purist (hee) might point out would never have been on the old 120 (I keep a running tally of how many times I have to fast-forward over U2 in a week), but there are definitely old gems, too.

Come up to visit and I will save you ten episodes. Alternative music slumber jamboree!

If that was that guy's name, Dave Kendall, man... I fucking loved that guy.

Visiting ain't gonna happen until December... I am already fucking up school by not studying enough and shit's out of hand! I might have a better handle on it after I get through the first round of exams. I hope.
