The Mixtape Generation

The linked pictures here will be interesting to a) people who have known me for about 20 years and b) people who are hardcore mixtape fans.

[info]keryx made these for me when we were maybe 13 or 14. A scant 2 years into our hopefully lifelong friendship. I hope I put half as much care into the mix tapes I made for her at the time!! Careful readers will note the budding feminism, and slight lack of actual 80s music.

I remember the careful precision that went into mix tape making, the sitting in front of the stereo, the trying to get your handwriting just right.

During the 'crazy laura' phase of my life my therapist actually suggest I make lots of mix tapes (and paint more tiny barrettes with sparkley nailpolish) because it kept my brain occupied and kept me from worrying, I could focus on something entirely.

I never got a better christmas present than a 2 tape deck stereo. So many hours spent forwarding and rewinding!

Holy shit I remember the Split Enz tape vividly! And I also second the sentiment on loving the fact that you save everything. I really need to start making more mix tapes (cds ... whatever) again. I still have the one that Donna made for me that had cheese drawn all over it.
