I managed to get through not one but two Netflix offerings this weekend. First I watched Eddie & the Cruisers, which was okay. Michael Pare is visually pleasing as usual, but his posturing comes off less as charisma and more as um, posturing in this film, unlike Streets of Fire. I probably just waiting too long to watch it. Also, I have a bit less enchantment with the music of the early 60s than I used to. Nevertheless, I'd watch the second one if they had it on NF. Or I'd at least put it in the q. The second netflix selection was I Shot Andy Warhol which I found mesmerizing. Jack and I couldn't stop giggling when the faux Warhol came on the screen. Lili Taylor just was amazing in this film. I can't say it doesn't make me feel good to hear her reading from the SCUM Manifesto.

This reminds me there was something in the latest Bitch which I was going to paraphrase here. That will have to wait until I get home, if I remember.

Why in hell is this tiny ballet shoe $222???

Er, anyways. I also caught, by accident, House of Flying Daggers over at dharshai and booyeah's house. I say accidentally, because I would never seek out a movie like this, but it was pretty good. We also had fun shooting the shit saturday night. Earlier in the day I had wimped out on going to the Kinetic sculpture race. Nothing new there. Sunday we went over to zanramon's to taste the wonders of grilled turkey (thanks to Jewdy) and played a bit of Tiger Woods. I even wondered at one point, is this game out on PS2? No no no. WoW is enough gaming for me.

Oh yeah. As soon as I can get a full group, Gorlash is GOING DOWN. I was after that stupid giant all weekend. Grr.

Things relating to the human body: I have been having terrible acid reflux, and am still not going to a doctor about it, ugh. I have been hearing about birth class from zarobi and partner, and I am here to tell you: I never want to go through that!! Holy shit, the episiotomy rate in Maryland is 98%? WTF people? And they described in detail an epidural. OH HELL NO. I am horrified by the whole idea.

Do you mean you never want to go through class, or you never want to go through childbirth?

oh, childbirth. giving the birth, specifically.

I have the quest for Gorlash, but I've been too busy questing for Wild Leather (which non-WoW players seem to find amusing in a titillating way.....).

Have you picked up an orphan yet?

Why is that? And I'm assuming you are putting 'Hero', and 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' in the same boat.

What's really crazy is that episiotomies are so unnecessary. It's female mutilation in my book but then I have some "crazy" ideas about birth.

terrible acid reflux
Not to scare you but it can cause some serious damage if unchecked... I can give you the email address of a guy on my hockey team. He is proof. If you saw my LJ post about it, I had a bad case which lead me to believe I was having a heart attack.

Why in hell is this tiny ballet shoe $222???

Tinier things are harder to make, first of all. Building a ship inside a bottle the size of a shipyard isn't that big of a deal, at all. Forklifts can get inside... there's not much accomplishment, there. Do that same construction job with a bottle the size of a thimble, while negotiating the minutae of flea-union contracts... astounding.

Also, and they don't tell you this because of commerce law... 100% unicorn hide.

As someone who had an epidural, let me tell you that epidurals are surprisingly much less freaky than I expected. They horrified me, too, before I had one. Compared to the contractions, you really don't feel anything. It's done by an anesthesiologist, not some nurse or tech, and they numb the spot up first before they put in the shunt. Once it's in and they turn on the juice, life becomes much more comfortable.

I'd say that, yeah, birth is the most painful thing I've ever done, and I ended up getting a c-section after all that labor. 22 hours, I think. The epidural really made it bearable.

I should add, I'm in that 2%. C-section, see above. We didn't get that far.

all IMHO, of course. :}
Having gone through the birth class a couple years back let me tell you: you don't know the half of it.

Seriously, if they taught these classes in high school, to everyone, mandatory, the birth rate would be *way down* and the contraception use rates would be *way up.*

I'm continually shocked that there's this many people on earth, considering what you have to go through to get one of these baby things. The only reason the first part of the equation (a.k.a. teh sex) is so much fun is to ensure people would even bother *at all.*

Me too! After birthing my daughter - in fact while I was in labor, if not during my pregnancy - I was SURE I would never do that, ever ever again, in this life or any other. I'm always pretty impressed when people want to give it another go. I'm surprised I can get in the mood for sex anymore after that.

Episiotomies are wonderful things. Since the C-section rate in the country is about 20%, I'm sure 98% is quoted for "first time vaginal deliveries" and as far as I'm concerned - it should be 100%, there is NO CONTRAINDICATION for it, I mean, I guess unless the mom is horrified of helpful medical procedures that prevent worse injury... But i assume you've had your wisdom teeth out, right?
snidegrrl
May. 3rd, 2005 09:51 pm (UTC)
Maybe they are wonderful if you want to push a kid outta your hoohoo, but if you don't, then I think it is highly contraindicated! ;)

Count me in as "horrified of helpful medical procedures" regardless of what they do.

I wonder if midwives clip things too? I mean, from what I got out of the description of the class, alot of women are going to tear anyways, and it's better to have a "controlled" tear than to let it happen naturally. I dunno. Either way sounds basically horrifying to me.
