New Year's Party Memory Returns:

I heard that Washington Social Club was going to be in Blacksburg later this month while incredibly drunk at the party. Does anyone who knows A) WSC or B) Blacksburg know anything about this? I *really* want to go. *really*. If the rumors are true. Oh, and get other people to go because they are a kickass band.

I'm only halfway through catching up with my email. I'm not trying as hard as I could.

Since the email is backed up...
Are you interested in doing the Christmas thing Sunday evening?

My bf is a VT alumnus and he's got connections there. I'll ask him and see if he knows anything.

I, too, am a VT alumnus! Alumna? Whatever. I think my connections have already worked. :) I mean, I can just see them around here but it would kind of be a nice convergence to see them down there. :)

Alumni? I have no clue!

When did you graduate? He was outta there in May of 01.

I'm glad you've found out . . . I won't get to talk to him 'till after work. :)

(btw, he tells me all the time of Blacksburg's hellacious weather and the inability of the forecasters to accurately predict the weather -- it's pretty funny! I've only been there once this past Spring for a wedding. It was pretty cool. We went to Sharkey's? I think that's the name of the bar.)

i think alumni is plural. i got out in '97.

sharkey's was pretty cool when i was there, but honestly the whole place kind of irked me, it was very much a "party" school and since i didn't party much because i was stupid, i retain this bitterness about it. it's silly.

the surrounding area is gorgeous, though, and in the summer when the students get out, it's a wonderful place to be.

Like four hours. It's a bit of a haul.

*sound of smacking dentures*

Time was when back in the day I'd make that trip every week! Uphill! Both ways! In the snow!!

But yeah - it depends on your opinion of 4 hours. If I went I'd be staying the night, no way in hell I'd make a one day trip.

They're supposed to be in Blacksburg on the 17th; it's listed on their site under Shows. Strangely enough, they're playing Blacksburg after a gig at the Mercury Club in New York City. Very much a "one of these things is not like the other" moment. Their site also has a very long opening intro with no way to skip it. :P

D'oh -- sorry about that. Try this link instead. That's what I get for not checking before hitting "Post Comment".

What the heck is the Solar House? That's definately... new. I wonder if I will have to endure annoying giggling coeds. BLEAH.
